Find Great Barbeque At City Barbeque

Back in May, I wrote a piece about barbeque and a handful of mail order Q options.

I mentioned one Ohio joint, City Barbeque, but had yet to visit said Q joint.

Well, that's changed, as I've been there four times in the past six weeks. Whenever we travel through Columbus, we find ourselves making a detour to City Barbeque in Gahanna.

How good is City Barbeque? The brisket rates as better than most places I've visited. It's lean, tender and moist. Mrs. CTCN loves the Carolina pulled pork and fresh brewed sweet tea. Little CTCN loves the tender ribs. City's meat has a nice smokey flavor without numbing your mouth

City Barbeque smells like a barbecue restaurant while blues music fills the air. It's a down home joint with paper towel napkins, a heap of side dishes like fresh cut fries, corn bread, and the cobbler of the month. Prices are reasonable and they have an extensive take home service which we use every visit.

Head to City Barbeque for the real deal and make sure you have a couple extra expandable notches on your belt.

Labor Day Fireworks Show A Blast

Last night's WEBN/Toyota Labor Day fireworks show in Cincinnati packed a massive crowd. Attendance estimates range upward of one half million people who watched the 30th anniversary of the annual show.

Often, I rave about this show to the uninitiated. I've attended several shows and last night's was the best and most intense ever. If you've never attended a major fireworks show, you don't know what you're missing. Often, the Cincinnati show rates as one the largest in the nation.

The fireworks capped a wonderful Cincinnati visit.

For those of you who visit Cincinnati, we recommend a dinner outing to Nicholson's Tavern and Pub, located in downtown Cincinnati. Nicholson's features authentic Scottish pub fare and boasts of one the region's largest selections of single malt Scotch whiskey. While at Nicholson's, we sampled 25 year old single malt and dined on shepherd's pie before heading to the fireworks.

Our overnight stay at the Downtown Hilton Netherland Plaza gave us a fine primer in art deco architecture and design.

Also, not to forget the northern Kentucky side, we stopped at The Party Source, a liquor superstore which stock over 2,500 kinds of beer.

Places To Go: Black Swamp Arts Festival Sept. 8-10

Looking for a late summer place-to-go that's not too far to go?

Then, you should plan on attending the Black Swamp Arts Festival in Bowling Green, Ohio on September 8-10. The festival includes musical acts The Reverend Horton Heat, The English Beat, The Fixx, and Woodstock legend, Ritchie Havens. There's an even longer list of other music acts which range from blues to bluegrass. If you've never experienced the Reverend Horton Heat, you don't know what you're missing. The cat flat out, pedal-to-the-metal, rocks. Also, the English Beat will have you dancing...guaranteed.

There'll be an electronica music stage, visual and performing arts, food, and festivities.

By the way, did I mention the festival is free?

The CTCN crew will be there covering the event and I want you to know that hotel/motels are filling up.

Two Men Arrested In Ohio; Charged With Terrorism Activities

Two men were charged with aiding terrorists in Marietta, OH. The men, in possession of large amounts of cash, disposable cell phones, and airport checkpoint information, were nabbed by Washington County authorities during a traffic stop.
