July 1911--A wild bird resembling a chicken, quail and pheasant lived in the barnyard of Charles Kaley of West Lafayette.
The bird, a breed which no one could identify, was captured by Kaley's young son and brought to the farm where it began living with chickens. The bird became a curiosity and attracted county wide gawkers.
In other news, the NBC peacock has confirmed, contrary to vicious rumours spread by competing networks, that the Kaley bird was not it's illegitimate offspring.--ed.
