President Now Has Power To Declare Martial Law, Send Troops Into Your Community

On October 17, in a private ceremony, President Bush signed into law the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007.

What does this mean?

The law gives the president the power, at his sole discretion, to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere he sees fit. Also, he can assume control of National Guard units without a governor's or local authorities approval to "suppress public disorder".

What's wrong with this picture? Be afraid, be very afraid.

I've oft maintained that the Patriot Act and Homeland Security had little to do with keeping terrorists out (hence unprotected ports, borders, and airport cargo), but had everything to do with keeping Americans under control.

Does this sound like a conservative "less government" value?

What do the powers know that we don't? For what type of civil unrest are they preparing? What type of unrest would require these types of presidential powers? Food riots? Gas shortages? Mass unemployment or depression due to the crash of our economic system? Soylent Green?

Think about this when you vote on Tuesday.

Coming To Your Community: Shouting Surveillance Cameras?

The world gets a little spookier every day.

If case you haven't noticed the vast number of surveillance cameras (public and private) throughout the U.S., just know the Brits have a leg up on us. Not only do the Brits have cameras everywhere, they're using methods I'm sure will filter into this country soon.

In one British community, not only are you being watched, but if you do something like littering, the ever watchful eye will shout at you.

Also, the Brits have surveillance throughout their highway system. Cameras are used to catch speeders, cell phone offenders, seat belt non users, and uninsured motorists. Those ever resourceful Brits are watching the how much mileage you drive and charge you accordingly.
Of course, the British wrote the book on taxation without representation.

Don't think it won't happen here. Oregon is testing a pay to drive system funded by the feds.
