America Food Supply Vulnerable?

Since I'm on a fear/conspiracy theory/what in hell is the world coming to kick today, I wanted to throw this story into the mix.

Once again, alarms are sounding about the vulnerability of the US food supply. "Experts" are throwing up (no pun intended) scenarios of botulinumum toxin/milk cocktails and poisoned grains.

Of course, there's a big government funded half billion dollar bio/agro defense facility hanging in the balance. What better way to secure funding than scaring the bejeezus out of people?

Quite frankly, I'm wondering if terrorists would be as effective as the food industry.

According to the World Health Organization, the US suffers through 76 million foodborne illnesses which result in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths annually. With problems such as listeria, salmonella, e-coli, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in our food supply, this is an annual cost in the tens of billions of dollars.

Maybe, we could use that half billion dollars for a problem which exists now...instead of playing fund-the-bogeyman. One more thing. Why should we fund yet another pork barrel project when the government has yet to catch the anthrax terrorists?

The solution for frightened woman everywhere...Blow Up Man! Don't like driving alone? Take Blow Up Man. Has society devolved to the point woman where women feels safer with an inflatable mattress riding shotgun?

What happens if the woman drives a convertible and Blow Up Man slips out of his passive restraint system?

Do you think anyone might notice that Blow Up Man's head looks like a pillow and that he doesn't move (other than when he's deflated?).

The most interesting factoid concerning this story has to be the 50% of women who are afraid to drive at night. Sheesh, you think a blow up man will make a difference? If someone wants to carjack you, Inflatable Bob won't matter. Unless, you drive away while the assailant laughs his head off.

License Plate Tracking For All

Hmmm...video cameras everywhere, face recognition scanners, RFID and now license plate scanners. All run by humans.

Think of the possibilities as the data is collected and cross referenced on a Choice Point database. Then, the data is made available to whoever wants to purchase it.

What happens when you receive a fine and the notification doesn't arrive through the mail? The potential for abuse, and it will be abused, is enourmous.
