Sex Saves Lives
Since we've discussed how beer may improve your health, you'll love this next story (well, at least the men will).
A recent study of Welsh men (they're from Wales), found that even sedate sexual activity can reduce the chance of stroke or heart attack. Men having three to four orgasms per week can reduce their risks by up to 50%!
Since women can help men live longer, men should help women. Open your shirt fella. It's time for you to breastfeed the youngin's.
By the way, I won't be posting any pictures for this article.

Beer: Nectar of the Gods

Some news days are better than others. Particularly, when articles appear trumpeting the healthful benefits of beer.
Over at physorg.com, a study says that moderate consumption of beer can help reduce the risk of several serious diseases. Of course, this works in coordination with four other factors: no smoking, exercising, eating a healthy diet, and not being fat. Hmmm, I guess that leaves out most of America.
Yet another article points out booze's healthful benefits, but reminds us too much can flip out your liver. The article, sponsored by a liver health supplement, tells you many of the things you need to know and, of course, you should take their supplement. Save the bucks, buy the beer.
As if this weren't enough good news, read this one about how microbrew can save the world.
Whew! I'm late for my Fuller's London Porter therapy.

Next time you have a wound which just seem to be healing, it's time to belly up and break out the maggot juice.
According to New Scientist Tech, researchers in the UK have found that maggot enzymes heal dead tissue. Apparently, the little buggers don't feed on live tissue and their juice heals wounds fast. The applications here could be enourmous. A little re-branding and voila! Maggot millions.
Does this mean we'll soon have Maggot On: Apply Directly to Your Wound?

Walnuts A Key To Life Preservation?

Nuts to you, buddy. I mean walnuts.
A recent BBC story reports that a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology says that eating walnuts have more health benefits than olive oil.
Apparently, the study shows that walnuts help prove the elasticity of your blood vessels while reducing vascular inflammation caused by eating high fat foods.
I guess this means Americans should eat walnuts after almost every meal.
Walnut producers everywhere are rejoicing.

Protect Your Heart 21st Century Style
With advances in medical technology, you now have at your disposal improved ways to detect and protect your heart. Recently, Men's Health published a list titled, "10 New Ways To Protect Your Heart"
A few items are common sense choices, but a couple could prove to be real life savers. For instance the electron beam cat scan. The article provides links to San Diego clinics, so I found an Ohio provider for CTCN readers. A couple more list items; don't smoke pot and use extra virgin olive oil. I'm wondering if dipping pot in extra virgin olive oil reduces your risk.

The Miracle Pill
September 1856--This ad, which appeared in the Coshocton Democrat, promised a healthful life by taking a pill. Don't they all?-ed
"Holloway's Pills may be taken safely by both sexes, and all ages, their effect being mild yet positive; their searching properties renders them invaluable for the extermination of every disease, particularly liver and stomach complaints; billious disorders, and indigestion.
As a purifier of the system, they are unequaled, and their virtues in cases of termination of blood to the head, and asthmatic complaints, cannot be too highly commented on, in short, by a perseverance with these admirable pills, there are few complaints which can resist their extraordinary influence."

The One Hundred Angriest Cities

One more list. I know Coshocton didn't make the 100 angriest cities lists, but I know a few people who do travel outside the county, occasionally. They need to read the list and plan accordingly.
A couple of angry city observations.
Florida has 5 of the top 12 angriest cities. I guess too much sun makes Jack an angry boy. After all, this is the state that Katherine Harris wants to represent as a senator. If you've ever read Fark,
you know that Florida rates its own icon and the icon rarely represents a positive story. Of course, this is a state that says, if you feel threatened, you can use deadly force to remedy the situation. Kiss kiss, bang bang.
The other observation: Fargo is listed as only the 98th angriest city. I guess the list makers never saw, Fargo.

Tea Healthier Than Water

A BBC story reports that drinking tea is healthier than drinking water. According to article, tea consumption hydrates you as well as providing protection against heart disease and some cancers.
I wonder how well tea protects against land sharks?
Nonetheless, this is a good news story for me as I drink tea every day. This should be good news for Coshocton patrons of Coffee Co. and Serenity Tea House.
Now, if they would just discover that tea-quila has healthful benefits.

Hot Dogs May Cause Genetic Mutations

Say it ain't so...hot dogs may cause genetic mutations?
Could this signal the end of the tubesteak?
What will we eat at the ballpark?
Does this mean National Hot Dog Day will soon become nothing more than a faint memory?
Will our genes mutate if the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile drives through our community?
What about hot dogs grown on a hot dog tree?

Allergy Sufferer? You're Probably Losing Your Brain Cells
A recent study has linked chronic allergy suffering due to hay fever, pet dander, spores, etc. to loss of brain cells and brain inflammation which often leads to Parkinson's disease.
Here's a tidbit you'll enjoy: it's estimated that one in three people suffer from these types of allergies. So, a third of the population walks around with inflamed brains.
As a lifetime allergy sufferer and abuser of cereal malt beverage, I'll now have to agree with my wife every time she calls me stupid.

Toilets Cleaner Than Cell Phones?
We should collect all brain frying, cancer inducing, dirty-as-a-toilet-seat cell phones and save our species!
Look, humans need filth and bacteria or our immune systems won't be able to deal with future infections. What happens when diseases are introduced into a group of people who have no immunity? Look no further than our history when super immune Europeans introduced small pox infected blankets to the indigenous people of America.
Look, if you want a clean cell phone, dip it into the toilet...it's cleaner. Now, quick, get me some duct tape.
