July 1911--According to the Daily Age, a mysterious woman wearing a black hat appeared in Coshocton and roamed from store to store. The woman had been seen in town on prior occasions, but no one knew her name or her place of origin.
The woman wandered aimlessly into a restaurant, walked up Main Street, stopped in a jewelry store, Ransom Dry Goods, the Fountain, Kirby's and back to the restaurant
On a previous visit while visiting the Ruth Jones millinery store, the mystery woman told a tale of killing her husband at the Star Hotel when "she saw him with another woman".
The paper claimed the story was a hallucination of a diseased mind. People in the community claimed the woman in the black hat was a dry detective; others said she was a bootlegger. The Age said, "at any rate she appears to be a dope fiend".
Who was the mysterious woman?

That was my first thought too...but then I remembered the headline said "haunts" not "shoplifts".
How about my favorite whipping post, Ann Coulter?
Nope, Ann Coulter doesn't look dark and mysterious...she looks like Mrs. Ed...well Wilbur..
Well it's not delia, she's sleeping with Prince Valium tonight...
Tovah Borgnine?
Tova Borgnine? It's well known that Ernest keeps her under lock and key.
...and the mystery continues
Ann Coulter may not look dark and mysterious, but she spooks the hell out of me.
Mrs. Ed isn't scary once you get her saddled up...
