Man Files For Divorce Due To Extremely Cruel Wife

June 1900--Tired of being called vile names, assault, ill treatment, and cooking his own meals, coal company employee Ed Gutherie filed for divorce.

He claimed his wife was so violent that he was compelled to stay away from home and often prepared his own meals which he had to eat at work. Also, he charged his wife with gross neglect
of duty for refusing to cook for him and the family or do the washing; all of which she was physically capable of doing.
