Coshocton Native Received Congressional Medal Of Honor

September 12, 1891--Coshocton native James M. Elision gave his life at the Battle of Vicksburg on May 22, 1863 while carrying the colors in advance of his regiment. Sgt. Elision served in Company C of the Iowa Infantry and perished while attempting to plant the colors on rebel works.
Congress recognized his sacrifice by awarding Sgt. Elision the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1891.
