Ida May Fuller Gets 1st Social Security Check

On this date, in 1940, Ida May Fuller collected the first monthly social security check. $22.54.

The government official pictured with Ida gently reminds her to not spend it all in one place.

I believe the gentelman pictured is a young future Senator Kennedy asking Ida if she would "like to cash her check at the Deli and take a ride out to Lake Park". Just a guess on my part though.

I suspect it's a young conservative and he wants her to give back the check.
