June 1908--Various farmers filed complaints with the sheriff stating that summer camps along the Tuscarawas and Muskingum rivers were engaged in the sale and dispensing of liquor. One complaint said that one camp was "engaged in the sale of intoxicating liquors (what other kind were there?-ed) and that a business was being done that would put the ordinary "speak easy" in the shade". In his dutiful investigation of the camps, the sheriff found no liquor violations.
