I still haven't stopped guffawing over this list of top cover songs written by Michael Venture.First off, many of the originals are not great songs. Even a good cover can't make a mediocre song great. So, now you're probably thinking, "Okay, Muttley, you name ten better."First off, Venture chose "Wild Thing" by Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix had two superior cover songs, "All Along The Watchtower" and "Killing Floor". His choice of "Personal Jesus" by Johnny Cash doesn't stand up to Cash's cover versions of "Hurt" or "One". The Door's version of "Back Door Man" better than "Howlin' Wolf's? I don't think so.Here are some others:Not Fade Away--The Rolling StonesHouse of the Rising Sun--The AnimalsRespect--Aretha FranklinMr. Tambourine Man--The ByrdsLet's Talk About Girls--The Chocolate Watch BandI Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself--The White StripesI Fought The Law--The ClashSweet Jane--The Cowboy JunkiesWorking Class Hero--Marianne FaithfulTwist and Shout--The BeatlesThe Man Who Sold The World--NirvanaWhen The Levee Breaks--Led ZeppelinPolice and Thieves--The ClashShe Said--The CrampsHound Dog, Mystery Train, & Blue Suede Shoes--Elvis PresleyTake Me To The River--The Talking HeadsTears Of A Clown--The English BeatPressure Drop--The SpecialsDo You Wanna Dance--The RamonesAre You Drinking With Me Jesus?--Mojo NixonI'll be the first to admit, I've missed quite a few. But, it's Friday and I need a shot of Hornito's.
speaking of the rolling stones though, I saw a commercial for a VH1 special on this band Platinum Weird where Mick Jagger is saying that they’re “the most famous band noone’s ever heard of.” I think they’re some band from the 70s that never released a record or something? check out this clip though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGvmz32ajaodoes anyone know about this?
Does your wife know you use the term "Guffawing"?
Shamefully, I must confess, that my wife once caught me in the middle of a guffaw. She screamed, ran from the room, and locked herself in a closet.
Duh, of course Jagger would say that about Platinum Weird...it's well known that he was shagging everyone in the band...If you'd been paying attention, Platinum Weird ranked number 27 on the Rolling Stone list of All Time Ass Kickin' Southern England Rock Bands.
