Okay, I must admit I missed Johnny Appleseed Day yesterday. He's one of those American folklore figures about which every kid learns.
While Johnny ended up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he spent much of his life in Ohio planting apple trees. I've read that many of the apple trees throughout the local area, most notably Licking County, were a result of his efforts.
Next time you purchase apples, purchase locally and you'll know that crunchy apple probably resulted from Johnny Appleseed's efforts.
