Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper never made the bus trip to Coshocton on February 12, 1959. As members of the ill fated Winter Dance Party, the trio died in a lonely Iowa cornfield on February 3.
Nevertheless, the WTNS sponsored show played before a packed house at the Coshocton Armory.
Locals thrilled to the sounds of Frankie Avalon, Dion & The Belmonts, and Buddy Holly's Crickets (which included Waylon Jennings, Carl Bunch, Tommy Allsup, and Ronnie Smith).
Here's a fantastic interview with Cricket's drummer Carl Bunch detailing the tour.
By the way, if there's anybody out there in Coshoctonland who attended this show (or knows anybody who did), I'd love to interview them here on CTCN.
